How can I create an invoice for a small gig?
Why it fits
They did a small gig and need to create and email their first invoice.
The post
A friend recommended me to one of their clients, and I ended up doing a small project for them. Everything went smoothly, but at the end they asked me to email over an invoice so their accounting team could process the payment. I had to admit I didn't even know where to start. I've never needed to send one before, so I'm wondering what most people use. Is there a simple tool that's good enough, or do you just create your own template? I don't want to overthink it, but I'd like to do it the right way. How did you handle this when you were new?

I make an invoicing tool for freelancers. For a one-off gig, the basics are your name and contact details, the client's details, a unique invoice number, the date, a line for what you did and what it cost, and the total. Payment terms and how you want to be paid help too. A simple template works fine, a lot of people start there. If you'd rather not build one, my tool creates and sends invoices to clients. Either way, send it as a PDF and keep a copy for your records.
